Debian viene con pocas fuentes tipográficas instaladas.

Que otras fuentes o letras se puden descargar, se llaman igual que las de windows?

Si están en los repositorios, que me imagino, será identificar su denominación cada una o se descargan por grupos?

Son fuentes disponibles o están instaladas? No creo que estén instaladas en mi equipo, pues en openoffice se ven menos de 25 fuentes.

Son fuentes disponibles. Si por ejemplo quieres instalar el paquete de fuentes "ttf-larabie-deco", debes hacerlo (como root) de la siguiente manera:
