PHP OO saltos de linea en una base de datos phpMyAdmin

tengo una base de datos en phpMyAdmin,en una tabla tengo bastante texto y quisiera saber como hacer para conseguir saltos de linea, cuando mediante un juego de registros inserto el texto en una pagina php en dreamweaver.
he probado esto pero me da un error

$rs = mysql_query('SELECT bandas FROM tabla_bandas');
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($rs))
{
echo '';
echo nl2br( $row["bandas"] );
echo '';
}

probaste tu conexión a la base de datos

creo que te falta la coneccion a la base de datos, sería bueno poner el codigo completo para comprobarlo
