error mail(): "sendmail_from" not set in php.ini or custom "From:" header missing

tengo el codigo siguiente

mail("[email protected]", "general", "hola esta es una prueba","[email protected]");

realmente no es gran cosa... pero no envia el mail. me sale el error
Warning: mail(): "sendmail_from" not set in php.ini or custom "From:" header missing in C:\xampp\htdocs\ltsi\pags\enviarCorreo.php on line 8

ya borre de php.ini el ; sendmail_from = [email protected]
y aun asi no funciona...
alguien me podria ayudar

reinicia apache para aplicar los cambios

ya lo reinicie y no hace los cambios...
de hecho ya reinicie la compu completa y sigue pasando lo mismo
