Contratar dominios expirados

Estoy intereseado en adquirir un dominio que expiró el 6 de enero y que ahora cada vez que haces un whois sale esto:

No match for "xxxxxxxxxx.com".

Es decir, esta caducado y no disponible. Me han comentado que al mes o los dos meses se liberan para contratarlo a todo el mundo, ya que en ese periodo solo se puede renovar.
Alguien sabe cuanto tendré que esperar??
