se puede hacer por phpmailer y por la funcion mail() también. Al enviarle el mensaje creas por defecto un enlace "<a herf='http://tudominio.com/confirmacion.php?variableget=valoresavalidar'>Conf irmar</a>" donde envías variables por get y creas un script donde recibes las variales por get y compruebas los datos.
