nose a mi se me ocurre utilizar un substr y contar los caracteres del nombre con strlen http://php.net/manual/es/function.substr.php http://php.net/manual/es/function.strlen.php
y por ultimo un ciclo que trabaje todo 1 por 1 e imprima los caracteres. http://php.net/manual/es/control-structures.for.php
