Te pongo lo mismo de la quinta edicion:
Cita: location
A deprecated synonym for the URL property.
Cita: URL
A string specifying the URL from which the document was loaded. The value of this property is the same as the location.href property of the Window object, except when a server redirect has occurred.
Tienes razón esta obsoleto. Lo que trataba de ilustrar es la diferencia que esta propiedad(o su igual no-obsoleto URL) tiene con window.location, ya que no se usan para el mismo fin. Y aunque ver esta pripiedad en algun codigo no es muy común, es bueno informar enves de decir "no no esto no sirve".
Es mi opinión.
