The free service we provided for almost four and a half years is no more, we were forced to discontinue it as of 2004-01-16, you won't be able to continue to use it for free. The cost of running the service has been growing dramatically over the years (without seeing ANY return), we cannot not continue normally without risking our personal means of existence.

Instead of closing the service directly, we make you an offer no other hosting provider can compete with so that we can cover most of the recurring cost and continue to provide and extend the service.

While the service is not free anymore (it was for more than 4 years), it will by far remain the least expensive and most competitive solution around (the least expensive provider we found charges as much as 96 Euros / year [121.45 US Dollars, 66.39 UK Pounds]).

Is there an added value over the previously free service?

Yes. The currently provided featureset represents the basis of the subscription. The annual payments will again allows us to invest time and resources in enhancing the offering. The current plans include:
Increase of the initial filesystem quota to at least 20 MB after extending the total amount of on-site storage
Performance and stability optimizations by extending resources and enhancing the servlet container
Elimination of classloader limitations (package requirements)
Introduction of an alternative to HSQLDB (HypersonicSQL)
Additionally, we will offer options for features and resources beyond the basic subscription (e.g. DNS services, MySQL support) which will be priced as competitively.

The payment is done on an annual basis, the annual compensation is due at the beginning of a new period.
