This is how apache behaves when an alias is accessed without the trailing slash. When such a request is made, apache will modify the hostname to that of the aliased hostname. If you wish to retain the hostname alias for these types of requests, mod_rewrite rules will need to be devised to do so. I apologize for any confusion or inconvience this might cause.
