Una forma sencilla si no necesitas más es llamar después de hacerle el new a
ventana.setDefaultCloseOperation (WindowConstants.HIDE_ON_CLOSE);
WindowConstants tiene más opciones según lo que quieras. EXIT_ON_CLOSE, DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE.
